Independent. By design.
Most veterinary groups our size are owned by private equity. We are not — and that is a choice we make again every year. R Veterinary is a 100% family-owned group of hometown clinics across Missouri, built on a simple belief: great veterinary care should feel personal, accessible, and rooted in the communities we serve.
From one clinic to a family of them
We started R Veterinary in 2016 — one clinic, built by a veterinarian and her family. Ten years later we're ten clinics strong across Missouri, and the thing we're proudest of isn't the number. It's that every clinic still feels like itself.
Along the way we've had plenty of chances to grow the easy way — take outside money, standardize everything, run the playbook everyone else runs. We've said no every time, because the easy way has a cost, and the people who'd pay it are our teams and the families who trust us with their pets.
Doors open
One clinic, committed to respect, personal accountability, and excellent client service.
Values in writing
Our Code of Conduct & Culture names our core values: respect, integrity, and trust.
First profit share
6.56% to eligible employees, into their 401(k)s — before sharing was easy, because it was right.
The PACK
The R Veterinary Way distills ten years of living it into four values we call the PACK.
Built by a veterinarian and her family
This company is 100% owned by our family, with everything we have invested in it and in our people. That's not a burden — it's the point. What we ask of our teams is simple: care deeply, tell the truth, and take care of each other.
“We can't promise every year will be easy. We can promise you'll always know where you stand, that your work will be seen, and that when this company does well, you will share in it.”
Dr. Katie Rericha, DVM & James Rericha, PE Founders & owners, R VeterinaryTo provide compassionate veterinary care for the communities we call home while creating a place where veterinary professionals can grow, belong, and build meaningful careers.
Why we stayed independent
What we've seen elsewhere
Private-equity ownership tends to be short-sighted. When a tough quarter comes, the fastest lever is people — careers become line items. We don't believe that's how you build medicine worth trusting.
What we chose instead
100% family ownership, with significant personal investment on the line. When we miss a target, there are no shareholders demanding cuts — just us, deciding together how to solve the problem the right way.
What independence buys the people we serve
The long view. We can absorb a hard quarter without panic, because we answer to our mission — not a fund's exit timeline.
People-first problem solving. When times get tough, cutting good people is our last option, not our first.
Decisions made by people who know your name. Every major decision is made by owners who work here and live in the communities we serve.
Profit with a purpose. What we earn stays in this company and this team — funding growth, refreshed clinics, better equipment, and the promises we make to the people who earn it.
Independence isn't the absence of accountability. It's accountability to the right people: our patients, our clients, our communities, and our team. That list doesn't change when the numbers do.
Honesty above everything
Medicine is practiced by humans. We care far less about a mistake than about what happens next.
Honest mistakes get grace
Raise it fast, own it fully, and help make it right — you'll be met with support, not punishment. We choose honest conversations over comfortable silence, with clients and with each other.
The one hard line
Concealing a mistake breaks the one thing patients, clients, and teammates cannot function without: trust. A mistake handled honestly makes us stronger. A mistake hidden makes everything a question mark.
