The R Veterinary Way.
Why R Veterinary exists, what we value, and how we lead each other. This belongs to everyone who works here — not just managers. Values only work when every person in the building knows them, believes them, and can hold the rest of us to them, founders included.
These aren't words on a wall. They're decisions we've already made. Every value here has a true story behind it — money we've shared, mistakes we've owned, offers we've turned down.
These values have a history
We opened our doors committed to respecting others, personal accountability, and excellent client service.
Our Code of Conduct & Culture named our core values: respect, integrity, and trust.
The R Veterinary Way distills all of it into four values we call the PACK — deepened by ten years of living it. Nothing here replaces what came before. It grew from it.
Four values. One PACK.
Everything we believe fits in one word every vet team understands — easy to remember on the busiest day, because that is exactly when values matter most. Here's what each one looks like, and what it never looks like.
Personal — hometown heart, always
Every clinic was built by a community's trust before it was ever ours. We protect the history, relationships, and personalities that made each one special — and we show up for the towns that built us as neighbors first, a business second.
Knowing clients and pets by name, and their stories
Showing up — events, schools, shelters, hard moments
Adding our name to a clinic's, never replacing it
Treating a visit like a transaction
Being a logo in town instead of a neighbor
Erasing what made a clinic theirs before it was ours
Advocate — care without pressure
We educate, listen, and guide so families can make the best decisions for their pets — their decisions, made with full information and zero guilt. We advocate for the pet and the family, never for a number.
Presenting options with honest trade-offs
Respecting every family's budget without judgment
Staying in the relationship when a family says no
Recommending care to hit a number
Using fear or guilt to close a “yes”
Letting a declined recommendation change how we treat someone
Compassion — for every pet and every person
Every pet and pet parent deserves patience, kindness, and care that respects their individual needs — and so does every teammate. Compassion doesn't clock out when the lobby is full.
Meeting fear, grief, and hard days with gentleness
Extending the same grace to coworkers as to clients
Handling every pet at the pace their fear allows
Labeling people “difficult” behind their backs
Saving compassion for when it's convenient
Deciding someone's grief has taken long enough
Keep Growing — in medicine, in people, as a company
Three things grow here, and they hold each other up. Our medicine grows — staying current is how we keep earning the trust every clinic came with. Our people grow — through mentorship, learning, and real pathways from the front desk to leading a clinic. And the company grows — because a strong business is what keeps a hometown clinic from becoming a clinic that used to be there.
Staying current so our medicine keeps pace with what's possible
Building pathways like our Manager in Training program
Growing strong enough to keep good clinics from disappearing
Practicing cookie-cutter medicine that ignores the individual
Hoarding knowledge or treating any role as a dead end
Defending a habit with “that's how we've always done it”
When you're unsure, ask: is this how I'd want my own pet, my own family, and my own teammate treated? If yes, you're running with the PACK.
Honesty above everything
We care far less about a mistake than about what happens next. We choose honest conversations over comfortable silence — with clients, and with each other.
Honest mistakes get grace
Medicine is practiced by humans. Raise it fast, own it fully, and help make it right — you will be met with support, not punishment, and we all get better because you spoke up.
Cover-ups end careers
Not because we're harsh — because dishonesty breaks the one thing patients, clients, and teammates cannot function without. A mistake handled honestly makes us stronger. A mistake hidden makes everything a question mark.
Everyone has permission to make mistakes without judgment or ridicule — and every team member has the right to refuse any act they believe is unethical, full stop. Our Code of Conduct & Culture has promised both since 2023.
How we lead
Leadership here isn't a title. It's how you treat people when you're the one others are looking to — whether you run a clinic or you're training the newest hire on their first shift.
Lead with trust
Communicate honestly, decide with integrity, and do what's right — especially when it costs something. Clear, honest conversations delivered with empathy build stronger teams than avoiding hard truths ever will.
Goals over egos
The best idea wins, no matter whose it is. Leaders here ask “what helps our team, our patients, and R Veterinary?” — not “what makes me look good?”
Grow your people
A leader's real output is who they develop. Mentor openly, make room for questions, and build careers — leaders are grown here, not just hired.
Decide close to the work
The people nearest to the patient, the client, and the clinic usually see the answer first. Leaders create clarity about who decides what — then trust their teams to do it.
People are never the first cut
When things get hard, our leaders look for every other option before a good person loses their livelihood. That's the whole reason we stayed independent — leading here means honoring it.
Gossip stops with you
Zero tolerance, and everyone in the conversation owns it equally. If you're pulled in, end it — and take the concern to someone who can actually fix it.
Sound like your kind of place?
These values will not be for sale, at any price — and holding us to them is part of living them.
